I got started in West Siberian Laika in the summer of 2014. I was looking for a breed that was still a working breed, not one that had been turned into a fancy looking pet that no longer had it’s original utilitarian qualities. I read about many breeds and talked to owners of several of them, but it wasn’t until I watched a documentary called Happy People: A Year In The Taiga, did I settle on getting a Laika. The dogs in that film were exactly what I was looking for, so I began to ask about litters. After an e-mail exchange, I purchased my first WSL from Vladimir Beregovoy. I spent the next few years raising this dog and reading more about the breed, which was often difficult because most information is in Russian. He was my first hunting dog so it was quite the learning experience. I purchased my second Laika from Darren Petty, a dedicated hunter in Indiana who had taken me on my first squirrel hunt several years before.
In addition to hunting, my dogs and I participate in many activities like hiking, packing, bikejoring, mushing, weight pull, lure coursing, and conformation. WSL are versatile in both hunting and recreation and I will be looking for similarly minded people to place my puppies with.
Campfire is located in southeastern Michigan.
